Cerebral Palsy Symptoms

Cerebral palsy is the most common type of physical disability in childhood. It affects just over 2 children in 1,000 live births. While a number of factors may contribute to Cerebral palsy, difficulties during very late pregnancy, during birth, or shortly after birth are all known as “birth injury” and are major cause of the disorder.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of a group of permanent movement disorders and are cause by the brain’s inability to control the muscles. The symptoms appear at infancy or in early childhood and symptoms may vary in severity.

Brain Trust Canada

BrainTrust Canada began in 1986 as a small group who saw a need for greater support and resources for those with brain injury. This group included people with brain injury, family members, care home owners, an occupational therapist, and a personal injury lawyer. They had two goals: to create formal support groups and find more supportive housing for those living with brain injury.

Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association

Since 1985, the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association has been helping individuals and families deal with the effects of traumatic or acquired brain injury. Founded by families whose loved ones sustained brain injuries, the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association provides support and service free of charge to individuals and families who are living with the effects of acquired brain injury.

Saskatchewan Healthline

HealthLine 811 is a confidential, 24-hour health and mental health and addictions advice, education and support telephone line available to the people of Saskatchewan. It is staffed by experienced and specially trained Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, and Registered Social Workers.

HealthLine 811 is free. Services are offered in English, with translation available in over 100 languages.

Southern Alberta Brain Injury Society

SABIS offers supports and services for clients living in Calgary and the surrounding region. Our service coordinators provide resources, make referrals, assist with applications, and engage in informal advocacy and emotional support. In addition to service coordination, we offer support groups for both brain injury survivors and their supporters. SABIS also engages in brain injury awareness and educational campaigns.
